Val d’Isere now has “hands free” automatic ski passes. The pass covers both Val d’Isere and Tignes. There is now also a local ski pass purely for Val d’Isere. The difference in cost is so minimal for such a huge difference in ski area; my recommendation is you pay the small amount more for the whole area pass. Seniors over 75 and children under 5 can ski free. (A photograph and proof of age is required) Previously a discount was available for guests producing their passes from the last 3 years. To obtain this now you need  to log on to http://www.valdiserepass.com. You pay €10 for a loyalty card and receive  5% discount for 3 years. It’s fiddly to organise and no longer a great saving unless you ski particularly often. Family passes are available for mum/dad and 2 or more children up to 17 years old. Proof of  family relationship and children’s ages need to be provided, usually a passport page. For families with children under 12 the discount is nominal, however for children over 12 this is a great discounted pass. There are free beginners lifts in resort. Beginners should wait until your instructor advises you before buying one and save money. Non-skiers can obtain a 6 day pass allowing unlimited trips on any accessible lifts. Or alternatively, just pay per trip.
