Hi there. Kim here again with Blog number 2. I hope all is good with you!
I'm loving helping people get the best out of Val d'Isere.
I had planned on putting 5 restaurants, but having lived in Val for 24 years now, that is just not possible.
There are too many nice options!
Again these may not be the most glamorous, expensive options (that is for another blog to come) but they are favourites I return to time and again.
La Corniche. Situated in the old town right by the main slopes. I love the Corniche as it has a true traditional Alpine feel, along with a lovely open fireplace.
Serving local specialities included fondue and raclette with the big half moon cheese.
Le Garage is relatively new and this winter will sadly be its last in this location. This is a shame as its funky, urban feel has been a terrific addition to Val d’Isere.
High ceilings, large TVs, occasional live music. Serves a great variety of pizzas and other general fayre with a terrific “teddy bear” pizza for the wee ones.
Taverne D’Alsace Situated underneath the Hotel Kandahar, it is often missed as it is a little hidden. It is though terrific serving Alsatian local dishes, with Parmentier de Canard (Duck Shepherds Pie basically) being a personal favourite.
1789 is great for meat lovers with a huge Cote de Boeuf and lamb shoulder being their specialities, cooked over an open fire. A small, cosy restaurant ideal for meals a deux, run by the lovely Isabelle.
La Source on the Main Street is run by the lovely bilingual Olly and his team. A good general menu with a terrific daily “formule” offering main course, dessert and coffee at a fixed price. Vegetarian and gluten free options are also available. You’ll definitely see me in here at least once a week.
Le Lodge has been my go to since I arrived in resort,1999. It serves everything from fondue, to steak to pizzas and everything in between. Mid range and with wine in carafes, it is a good value evening without breaking the bank. Wally and the family are always very welcoming.
Flash Pizza. Tiny and friendly. Laurent has his travel photos around the restaurant and loves to chat. Great for eat in, take away or delivery pizzas.

Many restaurants now include the tip with the bill, so take a look for “service compris” at the bottom.
Also expect to be often offered a complimentary Savoie Genepi liqueur made from local flowers and with a definite kick as a digestif.
I’ll take a look at the more upmarket options, mountain options, family friendly and also dietary helpful options in a separate blog.
Let me know if you agree with my choices or what you would add and we can maybe include them next time!
Whoever spots the "deliberate mistake" with one of the photos get a brownie point!
I hope this keeps you going for now!
Bon Appetit
